The National Weather Service has warned thunderstorms and high winds could come to the Willamette Valley this week.
According to the NWS Portland office, the Willamette Valley region, which includes Eugene and Salem, likely will see thunderstorms Oct. 19 and high winds from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25.
NWS predicted similar weather in the Portland metro and lower Columbia, and winds that would be even more extreme along the coast and in central Oregon.

NWS said a “weak to moderate atmospheric river” will bring heavy rain and increased chances for high winds across northwest Washington, southwest Washington and their coasts.

NWS predicted a 15-30% chance for winds over 45 miles per hour, and a 5-15% chance for winds over 55 miles per hour. Winds this high can damage trees and cause power outages.
NWS encouraged people to secure outdoor items to ensure they don’t blow away, and to clear gutters and drains to ensure the heavy rain will drain properly.
The National Weather Service predicted there’s a 25% chance winds will hit over 45 miles per hour in Eugene on Oct 25, 2025.
