SZA is stepping up for communities who need it the most.
On Monday, Nov. 10, the “Good Days” singer, 36, announced that she, on behalf of her NOT Charity non-profit organization, would be teaming up with a local Los Angeles restaurant to help SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients impacted by the government shutdown.
“Yall know how much I love Jon and Vinny’s !! But it ain’t no fun if the Homies can’t have none !!” she captioned a joint Instagram post with the Italian eatery.
The restaurant, which describes itself as a “modern diner for all-day, Italian-inspired fare,” has locations throughout the L.A. area from Studio City to Slauson Ave.
“Last week @sza reached out to us with an idea and now, with her help, it’s a reality,” the post said.

Through their partnership, the Grammy winner and the Italian restaurant will provide “1400 free meals (100 dinners for 2 per day) for Los Angeles community members who receive SNAP” for the next seven days.
Recipients can claim their portion of the proceeds at Jon & Vinny’s Slauson location from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. from Tuesday, Nov. 11 until Monday, Nov. 17.
There is a limit of four meals per family, and those interested in signing up for services can do so at notcharity@jonandvinnys.com.
“Please spread the word to those in need. Thank you SZA for inspiring all of us to be there for our neighbors,” the post concluded.
On Monday evening, members of the Senate voted to end the government shutdown after 41 days, the longest on record. It first began at 12:01 a.m. ET on Oct. 1, after Congress failed to agree on a plan to fund the government, per The New York Times.
Next, the House must vote, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 12, according to CNN.
One of the main discussions was for congressional negotiations regarding the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” per the Times.

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history occurred during President Donald Trump‘s first term in office, lasting a total of 35 days — from Dec. 22, 2018, until Jan. 25, 2019. The latest shutdown is the first to occur since.
On Nov. 6, U.S. District Judge John McConnell and U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani ordered the Trump administration to deliver payments in full to the states by Friday, Nov. 7.

One day later, on Friday, the Trump administration asked for an emergency pause on McConnell’s order, saying that the shutdown had rendered them unable to pay in full.
In an update, the administration called the situation a “crisis” caused “by congressional failure” that could “only be solved by congressional action.”
