A Texas father has been charged with killing his infant son after the child died last week from injuries sustained during the 22-year-old’s alleged abuse, according to police.
Officials with the Mesquite Police Department said in a news release on Monday, Sept. 29 that Jordan Greer was taken into custody on Sept. 23 and charged with capital murder.
The Mesquite Police Department said officers arrived at a home on the 5800 block of Northwest Drive on Sept. 18 after receiving a call about a small child that was “unconscious and not breathing.”
“Officers arrived on scene, locating an infant in medical distress and began life saving measures,” the release states. “Mesquite Fire Department personnel arrived on scene providing further life saving measures and transporting the infant to a local area hospital. Multiple injuries were discovered on the infant, prompting an investigation to determine the cause.”
The Mesquite Police Department said officers “were notified that the infant had succumbed to those injuries” a week later and that “following a thorough investigation, Mesquite Police Investigators developed sufficient evidence to arrest and charge” Greer with capital murder.
“This investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing,” police said.

A police affidavit obtained by local Fox 4 and WFAA reportedly alleged that Greer initially denied knowing how his son sustained his injuries but later confessed to violently shaking the infant and striking his head against a crib multiple times.
Fox 4 reported that doctors at the Dallas Regional Medical Center said the infant boy had a skull fracture, brain swelling, brain bleeding, and multiple rib fractures, according to the police affidavit.
Inmate records reviewed by PEOPLE show Greer is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
