The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has launched the final phase of its 90 Days of Safety campaign, focusing on family protection through a new public service announcement released on October 10.

The 30-day initiative marks the culmination of DPS’s 90th anniversary celebration that began in August.

“Texas faces more threats today than at any other time in our lives — and some of those threats are right down the street or on the other side of a computer screen,” Homeland Security Division Chief Gerald Brown said in a news release.

The Keeping Texas Families Safe initiative addresses five key safety areas. These include proper firearm storage, disaster preparedness, fentanyl awareness, online scam recognition, and suspicious activity reporting.

DPS emphasizes that just one pill containing 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal. Many victims don’t realize that substances purchased online or received at parties may contain the deadly drug.

The department encourages Texans to download the iWatchTexas mobile app for reporting suspicious activities. Reports take less than five minutes and help law enforcement prevent attacks.

The campaign includes PSA videos airing in over 180 driver license offices statewide. Social media messaging across DPS platforms reinforces safety messages throughout the month.

DPS’s 90 Days of Safety launched on August 11 with three distinct 30-day phases. The first focused on community safety, followed by road safety in September, and concluding with family safety this month.

The Texas Legislature established DPS on August 10, 1935. The agency created a dedicated webpage showcasing its 90-year history and current safety initiatives.
