Despite this decrease, Louisiana residents tend to worry about crime more than other people in the U.S.
Residents of the state are also more likely to think crime is increasing compared to others in the U.S., says SafeWise.

Around 36% of Louisiana residents feel safe in their state, which is one of the lowest confidence rates in the U.S., according to SafeWise.

10. Baker
Baker, Louisiana is located within East Baton Rouge Parish and has a population of 12,041. This city saw a year-over-year decrease in both property and violent crime, according to SafeWise. In 2024, the violent crime rate was 5.4 per 100,000 residents and the property crime rate was 23.2 per 100,000 residents, according to FBI crime data.
9. Tallulah
Tallulah, Louisiana is located in Madison Parish and has a population of 5,799. Out of the 10 safest cities, Tallulah had the second-highest number of violent crime incidents and the second-lowest number of property crime incidents, according to SafeWise. FBI crime data has recorded a violent crime rate of 8.1 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 4.0 per 100,000 people in 2025.
8. Broussard
Broussard, Louisiana is located within the Lafayette metropolitan area that has a population of 14,538. The city saw a year-over-year decrease in both property and violent crime, according to SafeWise. FBI crime data recorded a violent crime rate of 3.0 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 23.3 per 100,000 residents in 2024.

DeRidder, Louisiana is a city located within Beauregard Parish that has a population of 9,523. For 2024, FBI crime data reported a violent crime rate of 3.7 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 15.8 per 100,000 residents, making the city the seventh safest in the state.

Mandeville, Louisiana is a small city, with a population of 13,424, located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The city has seen a year-over-year decrease in both property and violent crime, according to SafeWise. FBI crime data reported a violent crime rate of 1.7 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 13.5 per 100,000 people in Mandeville for 2024.

Covington is a city within St. Tammany Parish that has a population of 11,679 and is the fifth safest city in Louisiana, according to SafeWise. This city had a violent crime rate of 2.0 per 100,000 residents and a property crime rate of 9.4 per 100,000 residents in 2024, according to FBI crime data.

4. Patterson
Patterson, Louisiana is a city in St. Mary Parish that has a population of 5,632. The fourth safest city has reported zero murders, rapes and robberies in 2025, according to SafeWise. This year, Patterson’s violent crime rate is 3.4 per 100,000 residents and the property crime rate is 2.7 per 100,000 people, according to the FBI’s crime data.
3. Rayne
Rayne, Louisiana is considered the third safest city in Louisiana. So far this year, the city has reported zero murders, rapes and robberies, according to SafeWise. Rayne is located in Acadia Parish and has a population of 6,952. In 2024, the city’s violent crime rate was 0.4 per 100,000 residents, which is a very low rate, and the property crime rate was 8.7 per 100,000 people, according to FBI crime data.

The city of Harahan, located in Jefferson Parish, is the second safest city in Louisiana and has a population of 8,656. This city has seen a year-over-year decrease in both property and violent crime, says SafeWise. The violent crime rate for 2024 in Harahan was 1.7 per 100,000 residents and the property crime rate was 8.9 per 100,000 people, according to FBI crime data.

Addis is the number one safest city in Louisiana, ranking at the top for the second year in a row. In Addis, violent crime has decreased by 80% year over year, according to SafeWise. This city is located in West Baton Rouge Parish and has a population of 7,618. Addis’ violent crime for 2024 was 1.5 per 100,000 people, according to FBI crime data, indicating an extremely low crime rate. The property crime rate for 2024 was 8.7 crimes per 100,000 people.
