All 50 were compared across five areas of focus: Personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness. These five were made up of 52 metrics, each with their own weight, and each state was then given an overall score.
Is Georgia safe?
Georgia landed in the No. 42 spot, i.e. it was ranked as the 9th least safe state in the nation. It scored very poorly financial safety, ranking the 3rd worst overall and 3rd worst for share of uninsured residents. Georgia also was 11th worst in road safety.

While Georgia didn’t perform well in this study, it certainly wasn’t the worst in the nation but especially not the worst in the South. Multiple other states ranked below Georgia, with Louisiana being the worst of the 50. The Pelican State was the absolute worst in financial safety and 2nd worst in emergency preparedness.
Other Southern states that ranked lower than Georgia were Alabama, Florida, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
