Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adeleye, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, former deputy speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, as the Executive Director of the South West Development Commission.
Adeleye, in a personally signed statement on Tuesday, described the appointment of Tejuosho âas a clear reflection of the present administrationâs priority on womenâs impact in governance and policy makingâ
She noted that the emergence of Tejuoso was a fitting recognition of her exceptional leadership, legislative legacy, and consistent dedication to public service over the years.
Adeleye stated, âThis appointment affirms that President Tinubu is intentional about entrusting critical responsibilities to capable women who have proven track records of excellence and capacity.
âRt. Hon. Tejuoso, a seasoned lawyer, gender advocate, and four-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is widely respected for sponsoring the landmark Domestic Violence Bill, which became law during her tenure as Deputy Chief Whip.
âThe law has positively impacted countless lives and also served as a model for other State Legislatures across Nigeria.
âFrom her early entry into politics in the 1990s through the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to serving as Deputy Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, she has consistently demonstrated capacity for transformative leadership and community service.
âBeyond the chamber, Tejuoso has remained a strong voice for womenâs empowerment and social justice.
âThis background makes her âa round peg in a round holeâ for the SWDC leadership,â the commissioner stated.
The commissioner expressed confidence that Tejuoso will bring outstanding qualities into her new assignment, helping to deliver accelerated development, improved infrastructure, and enhanced living standards for the people of the South West.
âWe are sure she will drive the mandate of the Commission as a team player, while contributing effectively to the Renewed Hope Agenda,â she concluded.
Recall, on June 26, 2025, the Senate confirmed the nomination of candidates for appointment as chairmen, managing directors, executive directors, and members of the board of the South West Development Commission, the South-South Development Commission, and the North Central Development Commission.
Among those confirmed, Fumilayo Tejuosho was elected as Executive Director, Corporate Services.
