The Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Jacob Gyang, on Wednesday, urged President Bola Tinubu and state governors to take immediate and decisive action to address the security challenge bedeviling the country.
The Gbong Gwom made the call when the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, led four governors and other APC chieftains to the palace of the first class monarch in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The visit came just as terrorists on Wednesday attacked Dimar community in Bokkos Local Government Area and set ablaze a church in the community while over fifty houses belonging to the natives were equally burnt down in the neighbouring Margif community
The governors, who accompanied the APC National Chairman, include the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, and the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo.
The monarch noted that the current security situation in Nigeria is worrisome, with people being killed daily in various communities across the country.
He told the APC National Chairman and the governors that though the current administration inherited insecurity and economic challenges, it is high time the government tackled what he described as years of insecurity.
He specifically highlighted the plight of communities in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Plateau states, where insecurity has hindered farming activities, leading to food crises.
The monarch described the situation as “heartbreaking,” noting that communities are burying their young, old, women, and children.
“We appeal to all of you politicians. The stability of Nigeria is what we all want. Every party says they want to make the country better. And we, at the level of the traditional council, always pray for leaders who will truly accomplish that mission,” he said.
Buba further appealed to the governors and politicians to work with Tinubu to ensure security and stability in the country.
He emphasised the importance of seeking God’s guidance in this endeavor.
“We appeal to you to work with the President to ensure security. Let Nigerians return to their homes, to farming, and to peaceful living.
“We know God controls destiny but He uses people to fulfill it. Please seek God’s guidance in this restoration agenda,” he added.
The Gbong Gwom acknowledged that the current administration inherited security and economic challenges but stressed that it is high time the government tackled these issues.
He said, “Let me remind you: at this moment in time, it has pleased God to place the destiny of Nigeria in your hands. And we will all account to God at the end of the day. We know things are very difficult. We know you inherited many problems, especially in the areas of security and the economy.
“People cannot farm, and that leads to food crises. Above all, seeing communities burying the young, the old, women and children—it is heartbreaking. I’m sure my brother from Benue can also speak to this. The Northeast has gone through it too—and is still going through it.I want to say to all of you: please help Nigeria out of this security challenge.”
The visit by the APC National Chairman and governors to the Plateau State Council of Chiefs was aimed at receiving royal blessings for Yilwatda’s new role.
