Tinubu’s 2-Year Achievements Surpass PDP’s 8 Years, Says Aid

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said his principal’s achievements in the past two years have exceeded what the Peoples Democratic Party recorded during its first eight years in power between 1999 and 2007.

In a post via his X handle on Friday, Bwala argued that Tinubu assumed office under far tougher conditions than the PDP met when it came to power in 1999, yet has made significant strides in the economy, security, and governance.

He noted that while the PDP government under Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua enjoyed foreign debt forgiveness, Tinubu has had to contend with repaying such debts.

Bwala also compared the oil sector performances, saying, “From 1999 to 2007, our oil output could be likened to a miracle compared to what President Tinubu has had to grapple with,” he wrote.

He added that the return to democracy in 1999 earned Nigeria global sympathy, support, and aid, whereas Tinubu has had to prove himself on the global stage without such goodwill.

On security, Bwala said Nigeria was far more peaceful in 1999, but PDP’s handling of national security eventually gave rise to Boko Haram.

“In two years, President Tinubu has degraded insecurity to the extent that we can now see a path to ending it,” he claimed.

He further commended Tinubu for taking “tough decisions” that previous administrations avoided due to fear of political backlash, insisting these measures have set the economy on a recovery path.

“The mismanaged resources that led to the decadence of the economy left successive presidents fearful of taking the necessary decisions to address it frontally. PBAT took the bullet, made the decision, and our economy is safely recovering now,” Bwala said.

Bwala maintained that the list of Tinubu’s achievements “goes on,” stressing that the president’s leadership in difficult circumstances speaks to his capacity and courage.
