Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, on Saturday, joined the Queen Jennifer Ephraim Foundation in Abuja to champion menstrual hygiene awareness among schoolgirls.
The outreach, held at Government Junior Secondary School, Dutse Sagwari, was part of the foundation’s Pad-A-Girl Campaign, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene, cleanliness, and the dignity of the girl child.
The campaign, themed “She Matters,” emphasised the need to educate young girls on proper menstrual care while advocating for equal opportunities for them to thrive in society.
Founder of the foundation, Queen Jennifer Ephraim, said the initiative was inspired by the need to break the silence and cultural taboos surrounding menstruation.
She said, “Many young girls lack access to basic information and sanitary products, making menstrual health education a critical priority.
“My foundation is committed to building a healthier and more compassionate society by supporting and empowering young Nigerian girls to achieve their full potential.”
During the session, Dikeh demonstrated how to properly use and dispose of sanitary pads.
She said, ”I urge you girls to embrace personal hygiene and confidence during your menstrual cycles.”
The school’s Vice Principal (Administration), Mrs. Okafor Fidelia, expressed gratitude to the foundation for selecting the school as a beneficiary, describing the outreach as both educational and empowering.
The students expressed excitement, noting that they not only received free sanitary kits but also gained valuable knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene.
