DES MOINES, Iowa — U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced a $152 million investment for rural development projects in Iowa at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday.

The investment will fund 19 projects across more than a dozen counties, focusing on healthcare, water systems, road improvements, and economic development.

“Rural communities across America are the backbone of our nation, and President Trump is committed to investing in these communities, so they continue to be productive and fulfilling places to live for generations to come,” said Secretary Rollins.

“If our farmers and ranchers do not have the tools and resources to continue to farm, then we cannot feed ourselves. President Trump understands how important it is to have a safe, secure, and resilient farm economy.”

Governor Reynolds commented on the investment, saying this investment is important during uncertain times in the agricultural economy.

“I want to thank you and President Trump for putting our farmers first, and for investing $152 million to develop Iowa’s rural communities. During this time of uncertainty in the ag economy, I’m so grateful to have a partner we can rely on,” said Iowa Governor Reynolds.

“Today’s announcement is great news for all the communities receiving these grants. I look forward to building on these efforts to make our rural communities stronger and more prosperous than ever.”

One of the significant projects includes a $37 million loan to Guthrie County Hospital for a 16,000 expansion and renovation, along with updates to various technology systems.

A large portion of counties across the state will receive funds for updates to water and wastewater systems. Bondurant will receive a $2.5 million grant to construct a 1-million-gallon water tower and main to prevent water pressure loss.

Halbur, located in Carroll County, will receive a $500,000 loan to repave city streets and add ADA-compliant curb ramps, street crossings, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Investments also cover transportation upgrades through loans to four electric cooperatives, including a $2 million loan to Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative.

These investments are expected to enhance infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in Iowa’s rural communities, aligning with federal efforts to support rural prosperity.

“At USDA, we are proud to fund these historic levels of rural investment and remain committed to working with other federal, state and local government as well as the private sector, to advance President Trump’s vision for rural America,” Secretary Rollins said.
