Did the UK government begin enforcing a daily bank withdrawal limit of £3,000 on individual accounts on September 1, 2025? No, that’s not true: No such policy has been announced by either of the UK’s banking and banker regulatory authorities. No such law, let alone regulation, has been adopted by Parliament and no credible news organization has reported such a government-enforced limit.
The claim was made in a September 5, 2025 post on X.com (archived here) on the @JamesWynnReal account in which the text of the tweet began “Get out, and get out now.” It continued:

Lead Stories also searched the website of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), a UK consumer protection agency with authority over financial services firms. The FCA’s website search engine found no announcements (archived here) of limits on daily withdrawals from individual accounts.
Lead Stories used keywords from the post to search The Google News index of thousands of news sites. That index search (archived here) yielded no reports that the UK would enforce limits on withdrawals from individual bank accounts.
The same search on Yahoo! News, which indexes coverage by its partner organizations and news services, (archived here) yielded several versions of the scare headline on non-credible sites. In the first set of search results was one report from a credible news site, which noted that banks were, if anything, relaxing some self-imposed limits on withdrawals from individual accounts.
Lead Stories conducted a wide search of the official record of parliamentary action in the UK. From 2024 through September 9, 2025, no limits on bank account withdrawals was made law (called “Royal Assent”) during that time (search archived here):
