The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo, Prof. Clement Adebooye, has said the institution would unveil seven mega projects that include a new Senate Building as parts of activities marking its 15th Convocation.

Adebooye, who disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing journalists to formally commence activities for the convocation ceremonies on the campus of the institution in Osogbo, said a total of 2,851 degrees and diplomas would be awarded during the ceremonies.

Osun State University, a multi-campus university with the main campus in Osogbo, Osun State capital, established by State Government under the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, operates six campuses distributed across the six administrative zones of the state.

The university had its first convocation ceremony in 2011, under the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Adebooye, who said the graduands were those admitted during the 2021/2022 academic session for four-year programmes, and those admitted during the 2020/2021 academic session, who have successfully met all academic requirements, assured that the university would keep the tradition of uninterrupted academic sessions.

Highlighting some of the projects that would be unveiled, Adebooye said, “Last year, we made history by commissioning the Adeleke Anatomy Complex and several other landmark projects, all funded through internally generated revenue, TETFund support, and the unflinching backing of our Visitor and Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.

“But we did not stop there. With the recent surge in student enrolment and our deliberate vision to reposition UNIOSUN as a world-class institution, we have completed seven new signature projects that will be commissioned during this convocation week. These include: the iconic Senate Building, funded with TETFund’s High Impact Intervention.”

Others include; “the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Building with furniture funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention,
a twin (500-500) Lecture Theatre Complex funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention,
a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre funded through TETFund’s Normal Intervention, entrepreneurship Equipment funded with Annual Intervention, a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Okuku Campus, a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Ifetedo Campus.

“These achievements reflect our unwavering pursuit of academic excellence, a conducive learning environment, and global competitiveness.”

Providing details of the grade scored by the graduating students, the VC, said the institution would award 2,505 first degrees, 01 Postgraduate Diploma, 283 Master Degrees and 62 Doctoral Degrees, totalling 2,851.

He added that “the breakdown of the various degrees and diploma in terms of class of degrees is as follows:, First-Class: 49, Second Class (Upper Division): 988, Second Class (Lower Division), 1,279, Third Class: 178, Pass: 01.”

Commenting further on the achievements of the university in the outgone academic year, Adebooye said the success recorded by the management would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Governor Ademola Adeleke, TETFund, and other partners.

Congratulating the graduating students, their parents, and all well-wishers, the VC noted that their achievement was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Nigeria’s National Universities Commission approved the university on December 21, 2006, as the 30th State University and the 80th in the Nigerian university system.

It has its campuses in Osogbo, Ikire, Okuku, Ifetedo, Ipetu Ijesha and Ejigbo, which serves as campuses for Health science, Humanities and Culture, Social science and Management, Law, Education and Agriculture respectively.

Apart from various projects that the institution had successfully completed, the university had also been recording commendable feat in the area of research.

Recently, the institution announced that
two out of the 158 competitive research grants awarded nationwide in the 2025 cycle of the Federal Government’s National Research Fund (FG-NRF) were won by scholars from the university.

“The 2025 FG-NRF research grant was open competition for all public tertiary institutions, including the universities, polytechnic, and colleges of education across Nigeria. The prestigious grants were awarded to two exceptional research teams from the University, whose research proposals were recognised for their innovativeness, relevance, and potential impact on national development.

“The first grant was awarded to Professor Kolapo Olusola-Ẹlẹka of the Department of Building, alongside his co-researchers, for their project titled: ‘Enhancing Buildability in Urban Infrastructure Projects in Nigeria through Innovative Construction Techniques.’

“The research seeks to tackle critical challenges in urban development by introducing modern methods aimed at improving construction efficiency and quality across Nigerian cities.

“The second grant was secured by Professor Adetunji Kehinde of the Department of Agricultural Economics and his team for a project titled: ‘Promoting Responsible Agrochemical Practices to Mitigate Health Risks and Enhance Sustainable Production among Arable Crop Farmers in Southwest Nigeria,’ the university announced in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Ademola Adesoji.
