Chattanooga Police have cleared the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after a report of an active shooter locked down college and city government buildings for more than an hour Aug. 21.
The university posted the all clear and lifted the lockdown at about 1 p.m. after a thorough search of campus.
But officials say all classes and activities will be canceled until 8 a.m. Aug. 22.
All students and non-essential employees have been allowed to leave campus for the rest of the day Aug. 21.
The university had posted on social media shortly after noon, saying there was a possible active shooter either at the university center or at the library.
“Run. Hide. Fight,” the school posted on X.
A later post from the school read, “All individuals on the UTC campus should remain on lockdown. Do not move unless directed by law enforcement. Campus facilities are currently being searched by police.”
Chattanooga police said they were working with campus police to confirm shots were fired.
The department said in a social media post they had not located any victims.
In a later post on X, the university said police were completing a search of the campus and have yet to detect a threat.
The FBI field office posted on social media that they were aware of the report and agents were responding to help support local agencies.
Tennessee Highway Patrol agents in Chattanooga and the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security responded to assist local law enforcement as dozens of officers were staging in the area.
This is a developing story. Check back for more details as they become available.
