Utah Valley University will gradually reopen this week, after being closed for several days following the assassination of Charlie Kirk during a campus event on Wednesday.

All in-person and online UVU classes will resume Wednesday, Sept. 17, according to information released by UVU.

UVU employees, including student employees, will return Monday, the school said. Hourly employees will be paid for work missed while the campus was closed.

Parking and dining services will also return to normal on Monday, UVU said.

The campus will have increased security, the university said.

ā€œUVU is committed to the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community visitors. Historically, UVU has been ranked as one of the safest universities in the country. UVU will be implementing increased security on campus as we heal from this tragic event, and we are committed to returning to the safety for which the university is known,” the school said.

The campus is currently open for those who need to retrieve their belongings left behind after the shooting. Those looking to retrieve belongings are asked to call University Facilities at 801-863-8130 before coming to campus.

The campus is also open for students and staff looking for mental health support, which is being provided in the Young Living Alumni Center.

Kirk was holding a ā€œProve Me Wrongā€ event at the bottom of a grassy outdoor courtyard in the center of campus when he was assassinated. His killer, believed to be Tyler James Robinson, 22, was reportedly on the roof of the Losee Center, law enforcement officials said.

After the shooting, the campus was evacuated and students were told not to attend classes on Thursday or Friday.

Since Kirk’s killing, flowers and signs have been left by his admirers at a makeshift memorial on the edge of campus.
