The Vetland Grammar School Old Students Association, 2003 Set, has trained 130 junior and senior secondary school students in vocational skills.
The six-day programme, held at the school premises in Oko-Oba, Agege, from July 28 to August 8, exposed the participants to hands-on training in baking, fashion designing, photography, architecture, shoemaking, and plumbing.
Facilitators included alumni, education officials and former teachers, who urged the students to combine formal education with practical skills acquisition. School principals and guidance counsellors also emphasised the importance of vocational competence in achieving self-reliance.
Vice Chairman of the set, Mrs Bernice Osai, encouraged the beneficiaries to put the skills to practical use, noting that they had been empowered for their future and generations to come.
Representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, District 1, commended the quality of the training and advised students to remain focused on building their capacities.
Some participants, including David Onakoya and Mudasiru Aanuoluwapo, expressed excitement at their new abilities in baking, cake decoration, photography, and dressmaking. They lauded the alumni, promising to pursue entrepreneurial ventures alongside their schooling.
