KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nearly 100 mourners gathered to honor Charlie Kirk at a candlelight vigil at Kansas City’s Loose Park Monday. Victims of two recent school shootings were also remembered.
The event wasn’t organized by any group or organization but one Charlie Kirk supporter who said he felt called on to do something after Kirk’s assassination while speaking at Utah Valley University last week.

From college campuses to social media, Charlie Kirk made an impact.
“I just followed him every day watched every video of his multiple times a day read all of his books. The moment I found out he was shot all I could do was pray and then when I found out he died I was at work and I immediately started crying. I didn’t know him but when you see someone who has so much faith it just feels like you know their soul,” Hannah Mikkelsen, who travelled more than an hour from the Warrensburg area for the event, said.
Supporters acknowledged Kirk’s hardline conservative views, but said they were rooted in faith and scripture.
“He was willing to debate anybody for his beliefs listen to both sides,” Bob O’Sullivan said.
The organizer said he chose Loose Park because like Kirk’s events he wanted to make sure it was open to anyone. One person passing by on the path expressed his dislike of the activist and displeasure at the gathering.
“We need to lift our city up in prayer, our brothers and sisters, our enemies , whatever it may be, someone on the other side of the aisle. We need to lift them up in prayer and make better of situation like this. I don’t want my kids to grow up in a world like this,” event organizer Alec Andrews said.
Attendees said like the name of the organization he founded, they hope Kirk’s death will be a turning point in America ending political violence.

“We all are just human beings. We all want the same things for our country. We just have different ideas and opinions on how to get there,” Mikkelsen said.
The only mention of suspect Tyler Robinson in Monday’s vigil was urging people to pray for him as they believe Charlie Kirk would have.
