JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — James McAlee is on trial for the murder of Jared Musgrove in Hubert back in 2022.
McAlee is charged with first degree murder after allegedly shooting Musgrove twice.
The incident happened on July 5th, 2022, where McAlee allegedly drove down from Virginia and drove to the Patriot Point Mobile Home Park in Hubert where Musgrove was staying. Testimonies from the state’s witnesses today say that McAlee and Musgrove got into a fight early in the morning having to do with Mcalee’s daughter. It ended with Musgrove shot twice and later dead
Emotions were high in the Onslow County courthouse as Musgrove’s family sat in attendance. The jury heard testimonies from Musgrove’s stepdad, who was present as the fight unfolded, Musgrove’s girlfriend, and McAlee’s daughter, who said on the stand she had a sexual relationship with Musgrove at the time. All of them testified that they knew McAlee was driving down from Virgina that day to confront Musgrove.
The jury also heard testimonies from law enforcement and emergency services officials who were at the scene that night as the state tries to depict for the jury what unfolded at the mobile home park three years ago.
Mcalee’s defense is arguing the shooting was self defense. The jury still has not heard from any of their witnesses.
