Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has ordered the state police department to investigate staff at a Fairfax County school for allegedly hiding an abortion provided to a minor without parental consent, and potentially doing so with public money.
According to the news release published on Wednesday, reports allege that school staff assisted several students in obtaining abortions in 2021, and that the school administration may have been aware of the situation.
“My frustration with Fairfax County Public Schools runs deep, and it, of course, starts with respecting the role of parents in their children’s lives,” Youngkin told ABC 7News.
In a letter to staff and families at Centreville High School, where the apparent incidents occurred, the public school’s Superintendent Michelle Reid said that under no circumstances would these allegations be acceptable.

“We all have serious questions about these allegations that must be answered. We all deserve to know what happened, and at my direction, the division has taken immediate action to engage an external independent investigator to get all the facts,” she wrote. “We will see this investigation through with the utmost seriousness, taking swift and appropriate action once we have the facts. It is my commitment to share the key findings of that investigation as soon as I am able.”
Fairfax County Public Schools said that a criminal investigation was launched as soon as officials were made aware of the incident.
“We have serious questions about these allegations that must be answered,” the county school district told Fox News in a statement. “At no time would the situation as described in these allegations from back in 2021 be acceptable in Fairfax County Public Schools.”
“We have taken immediate action engaging an external investigator to get the facts,” the district added. “We all deserve to know exactly what happened. We will take appropriate action as necessary.”
The investigation is ongoing.
