Former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Shina Peller, has called on Nigerians to take full advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
PUNCH Online reports that INEC had earlier in August announced the commencement of the CVR nationwide, with the electoral body explaining that the exercise would allow first-time voters, Nigerians who turned 18, and those seeking to transfer or replace their Permanent Voter Cards to complete the process ahead of the elections.
Reacting to the development, Peller, in a statement released on Friday, urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Oyo North Senatorial District and Oyo State, not to delay their registration.
He stressed that procrastination could deny many the opportunity to participate fully in the electoral process.
“Today, I bring you an important message regarding our democratic rights and responsibilities. I cannot stress enough how crucial it is for each and every one of you to participate in this process. Your vote matters, and it is a vital tool in ensuring that we have leaders who truly represent our interests and aspirations”, he said.
The Oke Ogun-born politician explained that the CVR exercise is not limited to first-time voters but is also open to Nigerians who need to register, collect, transfer, or replace their PVCs.
According to him, the PVC remains the most powerful instrument in the hands of the electorate to make their voices heard in a democracy.
“It is a tool required to enable us to select leaders who will shape the future of our nation across all levels of government,” Peller added.
He encouraged eligible Nigerians to complete their registration online via the INEC portal, noting that broad participation in the exercise was essential for building a stronger and more united country.
