There’s a new kid on the block.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday, Sept. 8, a new sales tax holiday that went into effect immediately.
The “first-ever Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday” will suspend the collection of sales taxes on the retail sale of items needed for hunting, fishing, or camping.
The sales tax holiday, which lasts until Dec. 31, is listed on the Florida Department of Revenue’s website as the “Hunting, Fishing and Camping Sales Tax Holiday.”

The Florida sales-tax holiday on specific hunting, fishing and camping supplies will run from Monday, Sept. 8, through Wednesday, Dec. 31.

In a post on X and Facebook Sept. 8, DeSantis said:
“Thanks to Florida’s strong financial position, we’ve been able to deliver billions of dollars in tax relief. We’re committed to helping Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money, and the Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is one way to do that.
“From now until December 31, Floridians can purchase tax-free firearms, ammunition, and other supplies for hunting, fishing, and camping.
“Florida is a great state for outdoor adventure and exercising your Second Amendment rights, and we’re working to keep it that way.”

In addition to several of Florida’s state shooting sports ranges being free year-round, “we are also announcing that during this sales tax holiday, we will further commemorate our constitutional rights as we approach the 250th Anniversary of our Nation’s founding by providing half-priced range passes for various public ranges across the state,” DeSantis said.

Oct. 12 (for Columbus Day): At all ranges

Oct. 25: At the Tenoroc Shooting Center in Lakeland and the Bay County Shooting Range in Panama City Beach

Nov. 22 (for Thanksgiving): At the Triple N. Ranch Shooting Range in St. Cloud and the Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Complex in West Palm Beach.

Dec. 6: At the Tenoroc Shooting Center in Lakeland and the Bay County Shooting Range in Panama City Beach

Dec. 20 (for Christmas): At the Triple N. Ranch Shooting Range in St. Cloud and the Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Complex in West Palm Beach.
Florida will celebrate America’s veterans and the freedom they have preserved for us by providing free range passes to all veterans at all ranges on Sunday, Nov. 9, in honor of Veterans Day, DeSantis said.
Florida offering gold sportsman license for half price
DeSantis also announced that, “in honor of America250, Florida will be offering the usual $500 ‘five-year gold sportsman license‘ for $250 — cutting those costs in honor of the founding of the republic and our constitutional right to bear arms.”

Qualifying camping supplies to purchase tax free include:

Camping stoves, collapsible chairs, portable hammocks, and sleeping bags priced at $50 or less

Does the Florida sales tax exemption apply to items I buy online?
Yes. Eligible items are exempt when the order is accepted by the marketplace provider or remote seller during the sales tax holiday period for immediate shipment, even if delivery is made after the sales tax holiday period.
