CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia First Foundation is opening up its second round of grant applications this month to assist organizations and government entities that are looking to address the opioid epidemic.
The second round will award the Momentum Initiative Grant (MIG), and eligible entities will be able to apply for grants from a pool of $19.2 million.
In the first round of grant applications, known as the Initial Opportunity Grant, money was allocated to regions to solve four target areas related to the opioid epidemic. This time, the Foundation said the location of the applicant will not play a role in the decision to award them, and that money has been allocated to target areas.

The five target areas for the Momentum Initiative Grant are:
-
Foster Care & Non-Parental Caregivers ($3.9 million)
-
Youth Prevention ($4.0 million)
-
Recovery Housing ($3.8 million)
-
Behavioral Health & Workforce Development ($3.75 million)
-
Day Report Centers & Reentry Programs ($3.75 million)
“I would highlight that the largest bucket dedicated in this fund is to youth prevention because preventing substance use early can break the cycle before it begins and so [MIG] was designed specifically to do that this time around,” West Virginia First Foundation Executive Director Johnathan Board said.
Applications are set to be open on Sept. 22 and close on Oct. 10.
