What are the best suburbs in Tennessee? Why Niche ranks these towns as top in the state

Some major Tennessee cities have ranked as top destinations for movers over the past decade, and the state’s suburbs are also among the best in the country.

According to Niche’s 2025 rankings, the best suburb in Tennessee is also among the top 300 places to live and top 200 suburbs nationwide.

When determining the best suburb for each state, Niche examined factors such as public school grades, crime and safety, cost of living, family amenities and diversity, among other things. These items were then given individual weights for their effect on the total score.

Here are the best suburbs in Tennessee, according to the analysis.

Top suburbs, towns to live in around Tennessee

Nolensville, the top suburb in the state, is ranked nationally among the best places to live at No. 257. Among the best suburbs in the country, Nolensville ranked No. 139.

Here are the best suburbs across Tennessee, according to Niche:

  1. Nolensville, a suburb of Nashville

  2. Brentwood, a suburb of Nashville

  3. Farragut, a suburb of Knoxville

  4. Franklin, a town in Middle Tennessee

  5. Germantown, a suburb of Memphis

  6. Signal Mountain, a suburb of Chattanooga

  7. Collierville, a suburb of Memphis

  8. Lookout Mountain, a suburb of Chattanooga

  9. Mount Juliet, a suburb of Nashville

  10. Thompson’s Station, a town in Middle Tennessee

What is the best suburb in Tennessee?

According to Niche, Nolensville is the best suburb in the state with its overall A+ ranking. This score is based on high rankings in public schools, housing, jobs, family well-being, and health and fitness. Nolensville was scored average for cost of living, outdoor activities, nightlife, diversity, weather, and crime and safety.

Nolensville also ranks first on Niche’s lists for best places to raise a family in Tennessee, best public schools in Tennessee, best suburbs to raise a family in Tennessee, and best public schools in Tennessee suburbs.
