After a burst of hot weather, much of western and central finally saw some respite as showers continued across the state on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

More than a quarter of an inch of rain dumped on Des Moines in the afternoon, with some light showers across the metro in the evening. The afternoon storm briefly knocked out power for about 9,000 MidAmerican Energy customers, mostly near downtown.
Going east, Pella saw the sixth-highest rainfall total in the same timeframe, amounting to 0.79 inches, according to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.

Is there more rain in the forecast for the rest of the week?
More rain for Des Moines is expected going into the end of the week, with a chance of showers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 18. and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 30% during the day. The evening has a 40% chance of showers and patchy fog after 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service for Des Moines.
There is a chance of showers before 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Thunderstorms could roll in by 10 a.m. with a possibility for showers most of the day. The evening is expected to be partly cloudy with a low of 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
