As another heat wave brings 90-plus degree temperatures, some people are surely thinking of fall, longing for changing leaves and cool, crisp weather.
But will Mother Nature actually deliver those more comfortable temperatures anytime soon? This is Ohio, after all, and the summer heat can linger. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says yes.
In its recently published 2025 fall forecast, the Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a warmer-than-average fall with below-average rainfall across most of the country this year, with the western half of the United States being “quite warm.”

Old Farmer’s Almanac fall 2025 forecast for Ohio
In Ohio, which the Almanac divides between the Lower Lakes and Ohio Valley regions, the publication is calling for a cool and dry autumn, bucking the trend for most of the country.
In the northern third of the state, the Lower Lakes region, September is expected to have periods of warmth through the middle of the month, then cool off, according to the Almanac. The month is forecast to have an average temperature of 62 degrees with 2.5 inches of rain, half an inch below normal. October will start with scattered showers followed by sunny, cool days to end the month. October’s average temperature will be two degrees below normal at 51, and the month will see two inches of rain, an inch below normal.
For the Ohio Valley, September will bring an average temperature of 68 degrees with two inches of rain, an inch below normal. The month will start warm with scattered showers and turn cooler in its second half. October will see an average temperature of 56 degrees, two degrees below normal, with two inches of rain, a half-inch below normal. The month will bring a mix of showers and sun, and will start off warm, cool down mid-month and turn slightly warm before it ends.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac makes its weather predictions by comparing solar patterns and historical weather conditions with current solar activity. Per the publication, it uses three scientific disciplines: solar science, climatology and meteorology.
How accurate are the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s forecasts?
The Old Farmer’s Almanac claims an 80% accuracy rate with its predictions.
Looking back at the winter of 2023-24, the publication reports that its total accurate rate was 64%, which it attributed to abnormal weather patterns.
