Indigenous Peoples’ Day is Oct. 13, and some businesses across Oregon will be closed.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day are both celebrated on the second Monday of October, and although Columbus Day remains a federal holiday, some states only recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Oregon is among the growing number of states that have transitioned from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In 2021, the Oregon Senate approved Indigenous Peoples’ Day as an official state holiday with House Bill 2526.
Despite Indigenous Peoples’ Day not being a federal holiday, Oregon residents will still see normal federal closures on Oct. 13 for Columbus Day, including most banks and post offices.
