When will the first frost be in Louisiana? What NWS data tells us about when to expect cold

The first frost of the year marks the beginning of fall’s colder temperatures, signifying the first time when temperatures are expected to drop to or below freezing.

Conversely, the last frost of the year is the average date when nighttime temperatures are no longer expected to drop to or below freezing.

In Louisiana, the first frost is typically expected in early to mid-November, with the last frost usually falling between late January and March.

When can Shreveport, Louisiana expect the first frost of 2025?

On average, the first frost of winter falls around Nov. 18 in Shreveport. The earliest frost in Shreveport was recorded on Oct. 19, 1989, with the latest recorded frost occuring on Dec. 16, 1998, according to weather data from the National Weather Service (NWS).

In Shreveport, the last frost of the year is expected to occur on March 5. The earliest last frost in Shreveport fell on Jan. 27, 2017, with the latest last frost falling on April 11, 1989, according to the NWS.

When can Alexandria, Louisiana expect the first frost of 2025?

In Alexandria, the first frost typically occurs around Nov. 20. Alexandria’s earliest recorded frost was on Oct. 19, 2011 and the latest recorded frost was on Dec. 29, 1986, according to NWS weather data.

The last frost in Alexandria occurs, on average, around March 1. The earliest recorded last frost in the city was on Jan. 9, 2017, while the latest recorded frost was on April 13, 1940, according to the NWS.

When can Lafayette, Louisiana expect the first frost?

The first frost in Lafayette usually takes place around Nov. 27. The earliest frost on record in Lafayette was Oct. 31, 1993, while the latest recorded frost was Dec. 24, 2001, according to weather data from the NWS.

The last frost in Lafayette usually occurs around Feb. 17. The earliest recorded last frost in Lafayette was on Jan. 13, 1990, while the latest recorded last frost was on March 14, 1993, according to the NWS.
