Charlie Kirk, who headed Turning Point USA, built a campus for the group in Phoenix. And it was in Arizona where Turning Point started immersing itself in campaigns, from federal offices to city council races.
Kirk, who was killed at an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, started Turning Point USA in Illinois, but he moved the organization to a business park near a Phoenix resort in 2019.
Kirk had a home in Scottsdale, but a real estate website reported in 2024 that the six-bedroom home was listed for sale at $6.5 million.
In appearances and on his radio show and podcast, Kirk referenced life in Phoenix. In a 2024 podcast, while going through election results, he discussed living in “our beautiful state of Arizona.”
Kirk appeared at rallies during the 2022 and 2024 election cycles throughout metro Phoenix. Kirk held monthly Turning Point Faith events at the Dream City church in north Phoenix since 2022.
Turning Point’s political arms, Turning Point Action and Turning Point PAC, were involved in Arizona statewide races in 2022. The groups were involved in 2025 in a city council race in Mesa and in the elections for the board that controls the Phoenix-area utility company, Salt River Project.
Turning Point USA has held its signature annual convention, AmericaFest, in Phoenix since 2021. The 2025 event was scheduled for Dec. 18-21 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
