Several Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets in Georgia are set to be sold or closed as the grocery company shifts its focus back to its Florida roots, according to a report by USA TODAY.
Now rebranding as The Winn-Dixie Company, the Jacksonville-based grocer is reorganizing its operations and pulling back from stores in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and parts of Georgia.
The strategy includes new store openings in Florida and the conversion of select Harveys locations into Winn-Dixie stores.
Some locations were sold to Food City and Piggly Wiggly.
Store transitions or closings are expected to be completed by early 2026, the company said.

What happens to the employees?
In some cases, employees from closing stores may be able to transition to new locations.
For example, Winn-Dixie noted that staff at a location in Williston, FL, which is being replaced by a newly acquired Hitchcock’s Market, will be offered opportunities to continue working at the new store.
What is the timeline?
The company said all store transitions, sales, or closures are expected to be completed by early 2026.
After the restructuring, The Winn-Dixie Company expects to operate around 130 traditional grocery stores and 140 liquor stores, mostly in Florida and Georgia.
