Arewa PUNCH recalls that Amina Yakubu, a 100-level student of Yobe State University’s Education Biology department, tragically lost her life in a road accident near the institution’s gate on Gujba Road on Saturday.
According to the Yobe State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the crash occurred due to diversions caused by military operations in the area, which often forced motorists into a single lane. This situation, combined with impatience and other factors, has led to frequent accidents along that stretch of road.
Abdulkarim further explained that the accident involved a tricycle and a vehicle, resulting in Amina’s death and causing serious injuries to four others, including a university matron.
“Yesterday, (Saturday) there was an incident like that. Amina and a few other students got injured.
“Eventually, Amina lost her life. She was one of the passengers on board the tricycle,” he said.
The university community has been plunged into mourning, with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bukar Jamri also extended his heartfelt condolences to Amina’s family.
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and we are deeply shaken by this tragic incident,” Jamri said.
Amina has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
