The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has said he received with deep shock the sad news of the demise of Amina Yakubu, a 100-level student of Yobe State University in a tragic traffic accident.

In a statement by the Director General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, on Sunday, Governor Buni condoled the parents, friends, and relations of the deceased, describing it as a sad loss.

“My heartfelt condolences also go to the Vice Chancellor, staff, students, and the entire university community over the loss of this young promising student.

“As faithful Muslims, we always believe in the power of creation and death as in the hands of our creator, Allah the almighty,” Governor Buni consoled the family.

While praying for the repose of the soul of the departed student in Aljannah Firdaus and urging Allah to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss, the governor also prayed for a quick recovery of those injured and directed free treatment of the victims.

Meanwhile, Governor Buni has called on motorists and other road users to be cautious on the roads, especially now in the rainy season.

Arewa PUNCH recalls that Amina Yakubu, a 100-level student of Yobe State University’s Education Biology department, tragically lost her life in a road accident near the institution’s gate on Gujba Road on Saturday.

According to the Yobe State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the crash occurred due to diversions caused by military operations in the area, which often forced motorists into a single lane. This situation, combined with impatience and other factors, has led to frequent accidents along that stretch of road.

Abdulkarim further explained that the accident involved a tricycle and a vehicle, resulting in Amina’s death and causing serious injuries to four others, including a university matron.

“Yesterday, (Saturday) there was an incident like that. Amina and a few other students got injured.

“Eventually, Amina lost her life. She was one of the passengers on board the tricycle,” he said.

The university community has been plunged into mourning, with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bukar Jamri also extended his heartfelt condolences to Amina’s family.

“The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and we are deeply shaken by this tragic incident,” Jamri said.

Amina has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
