The Yobe State Government has started relocating 250 households from Garin Kolo in Nangere Local Government Area after devastating floods destroyed homes and contaminated water sources. The exercise, launched on Tuesday under the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, seeks to safeguard the lives and dignity of affected families.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), 22 temporary shelters have been erected to accommodate over 200 people, with additional facilities underway.

“A water reservoir has been installed, five emergency toilets provided, and an ambulance stationed for medical referrals,” he noted.

‘Personnel from the NSCDC and Police have ensured the safety of lives and property throughout the operation. Vulnerable individuals requiring medical attention were promptly referred to General Hospital Nangere.”

Each affected household has received food baskets, with plans to sustain and expand this support in the coming days.

“Governor Buni remains committed to mobilising all available resources to ensure that every affected family from Garin Kolo is relocated with safety, dignity, and hope for recovery,” he added.

He also expressed gratitude to the Emir of Tikau, Nangere LGA authorities, the State Ministry of Health, RUWASA, NSCDC, Police, and other partners whose coordinated efforts made the intervention possible.

“The government urges donors, humanitarian partners, and the public to support this noble cause,” the YOSEMA official concluded.
