Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has applauded the Taraba State Green House, expressing optimism that it would protect food security and address the hunger crisis in the North East and Nigeria at large.
The governor stated this during the recent inauguration of the project at the summit of the North East governors in Jalingo, the state capital.
This was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello.
A greenhouse is a glass building in which plants that need protection from cold weather are grown.
The development comes two months after the state celebrated its first successful Green House harvest since resuming operations—marking what officials described as a new dawn in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
The yield, which included an abundant harvest of green pepper and cucumber, signals the resurgence of the once-moribund facility and positions the state at the forefront of Nigeria’s technology-driven agricultural revolution.
Aside from Zulum, the host Governor, Agbu Kefas, led five other governors to inaugurate the remodelled Green House Farm.
The governors included Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Muhammed (Bauchi), Yahaya Inuwa (Gombe), and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe).
Zulum said, “The farm has the potential of dealing with hunger in the subregion and the country at large. As governors, we are coincidentally worried about the shortage of food next year.
“The Green House farm thus raises hopes that one of the states in the region is finally confronting the malaise boldly and compellingly.”
On his part, Kefas expressed delight that Taraba has been fortunate to be championing the revolutionary initiative in Jalingo.
The governor added that the locals are now fond of calling the vast vegetable plantation the Cucumber Farm.
“The world-class technology ensures that vegetables are cultivated all year long, irrespective of climatic conditions. Apart from the famous green pepper, the world-class tomatoes here are clearly the best in the market.
“Healthy, fleshy, and nutritious, experts say, Taraba State has invariably become the headquarters of vegetables in the country.
“Already, the market is surging with prospects as many buyers and sellers are lining up to take advantage of the business. Investors are also showing renewed interest in the deeply profitable venture,” he stated.
